About Olga

Olga Butkevych was the first ever female wrestler representive of Team GB at an Olympics, competing in the women's 55kg category at the London 2012 Olympic Games.

Olga, who lives in Manchester, was born in Ukraine on 3rd January 1986 but came to the UK in 2007, where she has now settled, and calls this country 'home'.  Olga won a silver medal in the December 2011 Olympic Test event at the ExCel arena and went on to finish 11th out of 19 in the Games.

  • April 2011:
    • Bronze medal (59kg) at the European Championships in Dortmund, Germany
    • Only the second medal achieved by an athlete competing for GB in a European Championships  since Noel Loban won silver in the event held in Manchester in 1988 (21 yrs previous)
  • September 2012:
    • Bronze medal (59kg) at the World Championships in Edmonton, Canada
    • The first medal achieved by an athlete competing for GB in living memory in a world championships
