GB Teams
The British Wrestling World Class Performance Programme has developed a new performance pathway which is currently being implemented.
A new National Talent Squad for 14 to 19 year olds has been formed. A National Development Squad for senior athletes will be selected following the British Championships at the end of October 2009
The future still holds some very challenging times but British Wrestling now finds itself in a much healthier position than 12 months ago with the main challenges ahead including;
• Developing relationships with the wider wrestling community and other stakeholders to ensure buy-in to the World Class Performance Programme.
• Develop a communication process that can aid the development of stakeholder relationships as well as providing a system that facilitates the flow of information between critical stakeholders (EIS/UK Sport & the WCP), taking into consideration the voluntary nature of the programme's Performance Director.
• Development of a clear and robust performance management structure
• Developing a structured development programme to ensure that wrestling can sustain progression and optimise its potential
• Develop the newly created performance pathway to ensure a clear and effective route to World Class Performance Programme and reduce the void between the now established ‘performance’ level athletes and young ‘talent’ level athletes.
• Ensure Great Britain successfully hosts a significant international event in 2010 and annually on the approach to London 2012. This will enhance reputation of organisation and familiarise British athletes with competing within a home environment.
