Home Nations Director - Northern Ireland

The population of the new Board of the British Wrestling Association continues.  Home Nations Directors for England, Scotland and Wales have been appointed and there is a vacancy for a Home Nations Director (Northern Ireland).

The November 2017 Articles allow for 4x Home Nations Directors to be recruited to the BWA Board.  Each such appointment must be ratified by the Board. It is worth noting, that Home Nations Directors are not representatives of their home nation. However, the role holders are expected to provide leadership, advice and guidance in their Home Nation.

Advertising of role
Recruitment to the Board shall be done in line with the requirements of the UK Sport / Sport England “A Code for Sports Governance” and must meet the requirements of the BWA 4 Nov 2017 Articles and BWA recruitment policy. All these should be in synchronisation with each other. Therefore the recruitment must

  • be an open recruitment process
  • following a formal, rigorous and transparent procedure that is competence-based
  • shall be made on merit in line with the skills required of the Board
  • Process

The role is advertised on BWA Website and Facebook and Home Nations communications systems as they wish.

Application Process
There will be a process as follows

  • Applicants should apply to ce@britishwrestling.org with a minimum of CV and covering letter as to why they have applied for the role
  • Shortlisting process - e.g. scoring applicants against the person specification criteria to select who to take forward to interview stage. This process needs to be documented and available to those involved in the selection process
  • There will be a formal interview of candidates
  • All appointments shall be made on merit in line with the skills required of the Board making use of a skills matrix of current Board requirements
  • Following a successful interview, further checks will be required
    • a minimum of 2 satisfactory relevant employer references
    • a satisfactory self-disclosure (BWA Safeguarding Policy – Template One)
    • the Equality Profiling and Monitoring form
    • a declaration of good character

The closing date for applications will be 5pm Friday 14th September 2018 [changed on 7th Sep: From 7th Sept which was an error To 14th Sept.  The accompanying News item always showed the correct date of 14th Sept].

The timing and place of interviews is dependent on the number and location of applicants and will be communicated shortly after the closing date.

It is intended to aim for Board Ratification at its meeting on the 29th September 2018, in Salford, a meeting to which the successful candidate will be invited.  Thus candidates should keep this date clear.

Following the candidate's ratification, there will be a Board Induction Process, ensuring that the new Director receives a full, formal and tailored induction on joining the Board, led by the BWA Chief Executive.
