The Association collaborates with Network Rail's No Messin! campaign. This programme aims to encourage kids to participate in sporting pastimes, in order to play safe. The programme targets schools in areas where there have been fatalities as a result of playing rail tracks. Kid or concerned parent? Click here or on the image above to visit a real cool website!

The British Wrestling Association Ltd

Welcome to the British Wrestling Association (BWA) Website which provides information on wrestling in Great Britain (England, Northern Ireland, Scotland and Wales).

If you are a wrestler or just curious about what is possibly the oldest sport known to man, then please hang around and soak up the content of these pages; browse the galleries for high quality action pictures; read up to date results of national competitions or discover how you can become a member of the BWA and support the growth of this sport.

Why participate in wrestling?

Photo of a Supplex - John Melling Few sports require total use of the body and wrestling develops this with all the following benefits: greater physical development, flexibility, body awareness, strength and leverage, balance, co-ordination and reaction time, speed and the opportunity to achieve very low body fat, as fitness is achieved.

Wrestling in schools and clubs is a sport of individual participation functioning within the framework of team concepts. This aspect contributes to the development of life-long patterns of responsible behaviour including respect for others regardless of social or racial origin . A young person involved in wrestling can be expected to display increasing self-confidence and appreciation of their self-worth, and develop analytical and adaptive skills.

What is more wrestling is fun and, like other athletic pursuits, all the family can participate in various ways; from supporting the kids (yes girls can wrestle too!) and their clubs through to becoming a qualified referee. Want to learn more? Well why not visit one of the National competitions or use the 'Clubs' page to find out what activity is taking place near you.
